Remembering

My husband's uncle passed away over the weekend after a long battle with cancer.  I had the honor of knowing him for about 15 years. Despite the continual pain he felt, he was always friendly and had a kind word.  At his memorial service today, the chaplain spoke about his character-how he would literally pick up his wounded partner and bring him to work each day.

This was the first police funeral I have ever attended, and it was a very touching service.  Members of the Arlington Police Department stood guard over his body during the time the casket was at the funeral home, and at the end of the service they folded the flag that had draped the casket, and presented it to his wife. After the service was over, they provided a police escort for the family.

He will be missed, but we all take comfort in knowing that he no longer suffers from the pain he has been in.
