What Do I Know Of Holy?

Today I have the song "What Do I Know Of Holy?" by Addison Road going through my head.  I keep re-playing it on youtube.

Here is a link for you to view:

The lyrics have a great message:

I made You promises a thousand times
I tried to hear from Heaven
But I talked the whole time
I think I made You too small
I never feared You at all No
If You touched my face would I know You?
Looked into my eyes could I behold You?

(CHORUS)
What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

I guess I thought that I had figured You out
I knew all the stories and I learned to talk about
How You were mighty to save
Those were only empty words on a page
Then I caught a glimpse of who You might be
The slightest hint of You brought me down to my knees

(CHORUS)
What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

(CHORUS 2)
What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame?
And a God who gave life "its" name?
What do I know of Holy?
Of the One who the angels praise?
All creation knows Your name
On earth and heaven above
What do I know of this love?

(CHORUS)
What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of Holy?

Addison Road is a band that has had their fair share of struggles, and the lyrics to their songs tells stories that give words to help deal with struggles.  Here is a paragraph from the bio on their website:

For all their tests and travails, the members of Addison Road have somehow found themselves in a pretty contented place. It’s as if God has brought them through an arduous mountain climb so they can deliver these “Stories” with genuineness, and remind their listeners that the climb may be difficult, but you can see a lot of good things once you’ve reached the top.

Beautiful Hair? Me?

You look at some people, and their hair is always just perfect.  Such is not my hair.  When I got married, I didn't even own a blow dryer.  Fast forward to today:  I now own (and use!) a blow dryer and flat iron everyday-I have learned a few things, but alas, my hair is not what you would call sought after by others.

My last hair cut was a horrible cut.  The stylist was not listening to what I told her.  She cut way too much off the top, and not enough off the sides.  I was frustrated because all she had to do was follow the cut from last time, and just give me a trim.  I trimmed the too-short parts myself after I left the salon, which helped.  But ultimately, I just had to wait for the top and my bangs to grow out.  Eight weeks later:  I L-O-V-E my hair!  And, to top off me actually liking my hair, I have received multiple compliments on it in the past week or two!  I don't recall that EVER happening in my lifetime!  I need to take lots of pictures of the current style to show my stylist when it's time for another cut (actually it's already past time for my bangs).

Grass Fire

Up until this year, I have never seen a grass fire.  I remember hearing about them on the news years ago, but this year with the severe drought as widespread as it is in Texas, there have been numerous grass fires.  Back in late spring or early summer I saw local news footage of a grass fire taken from a helicopter.  That particular fire came near an elementary school, and the fire fighters were quick to douse the fire in that area.  Then it threatened a gas station, which could have caused a major explosion.  Again, the fire fighters stopped it from reaching the fire station.  They also stopped the fire from reaching a neighborhood.  Watching the fire, it amazed me just how powerful they are.  It was as if the fire fighters couldn't stop the fire-they could only slow it down some.  When the wind picked up, it just spread "like wildfire" (I see where that phrase comes from now). Eventually, after a long time, the fire was put out.

Not too long after that I witnessed my first grass fire.  I was on my way home from a road trip to Tennessee, and was only about 20 minutes from home.  I could see the smoke miles and miles before I got to it.

As I got nearer I realized it was a grass fire.  It was in a neighborhood, although I could not tell if homes were burning or not-I guessed not since I didn't see any black smoke.  The fire burned all the way to the edge of the highway.  I kept on driving-as did all the cars around me, although incredibly slowly.  Visibility was especially low.  Here is a picture from right before the smoke got really thick.  I could only see about one car length in front of me.
I have seen two grass fires since then (including one today), though neither of them were as bad as this one was.  My heart breaks for those whose homes are in danger, and for the farmers whose crops and livestock are in danger.  We are praying for rain to come.

Vacation Day 10

Today is my last day of vacation before returning to work.  It's Sunday, and it's my day to run, so I had to set my alarm-the only vacation day I had to do that-which means the feeling of being back to reality has already hit.  Since I woke up to an alarm, I was all over the coffee at church.  Yum!  And it did the trick, too.

We sat in on the Jr High Sunday School during second service, and at the end of their lesson, playdough was passed around to the students to mold into models.  My hubby made a rose.  So pretty!

When church was over, we decided to take advantage of our last opportunity for a nap.  We put on a documentary because they are easy to sleep to.  "Fat Head" was our choice.  I didn't sleep because I was actually kind of interested in the movie, but the hubby got a short nap.

His nap was interrupted by a phone call from the Kids Camp director.  They had a last minute emergency-they were short support staff, and called to see if we had any students available that could help this week.  So he loaded up his stuff, and our oldest son, and went to collect some more of our students to help.

Ahhh...vacation can't last forever, but it sure was fun!

Vacation Day 8

We have "Boredom Busters" for our youth group randomly each week throughout the summer.  We send out text blasts and inform them via facebook about what the activity will be about 24 hours in advance, and those that want to participate can show up.  Today's Boredom Buster was Peter Piper Pizza.  In addition to the youth, a few other family members came, too, which is always great!  We had a blast!
