Fine Arts Saturday-The Results

After waiting what seemed like an eternity Saturday, it we finally time for the Fine Arts Closing Ceremony.  Each of our students did a great job. Two groups advanced to nationals: Puppet Group, and Piano Solo. I am so proud of both my boys, and my sons puppet partner!

Fine Arts Saturday-Piano Solo

On Saturday, our church only had one performance for Fine Arts left: piano solo. My son performed this one by playing "I'll Fly Away". He did a great job!

Fine Arts Friday-Performing Arts

At Fine Arts today, our students performed in 3 separate categories:  Female Vocal Solo, Pupperty Group, and Songwriting.

Female vocal solo was performed by a student who sang "God Girl".  We had a last minute issue that I ahd to take care of, and so I ran as fast as I could but the door was already shut when I arrived.  I could see her performance, and just barely hear though the door.  She said she was nervous, but she didn't appear that way!  I hate that I missed it!

The next group that went was Puppetry.  My youngest son and a girl from our church performed the song "Screen Door on a Submarine".  It was quite entertaining; their puppet coach is very talented!  You would be surprised how much work goes into this behind the scenes for months in preparation.

Our last group for the night was Songwriting-my oldest son along with the girl who performed Female Vocal Solo did this category.  My son composed the song on the piano, and she wrote the words.  My son definitely gets his talent from my hubby-I am not musically talented at all, so it is all very impressive!  And I have no idea how she came up with lyrics either-they worked great together!

Fine Arts Friday-Visual & Written Art

This weekend, our students are performing in Fine Arts.  They have practiced for months in various categories, and all their hard word is put to the test-and the top performers receive scholarships.  One of the areas that tends to get overlooked is the visual and written art categories.  Perhaps because the students simply drops off their work, but never "perform"?  Or perhaps because their name does not get printed in the manual?

Regardless of the reason, these students work just as hard on their projects.  We had two students in these categories this year:  Poetry and T-Shirt Design.  They did a great job, and I am looking forward to seeing the evaluators' result sheets.

Awards Night

My oldest son had an awards ceremony for school last night.  Each of the teachers selected two students that they felt excelled in their classes, and they were awarded.  My son received two:  one in English, and the other in Kinesiology.  I am one proud mama!

David's

My hubby and I had date night early this week!  We went to David's in Cedar Hill.  He had the catfish-his usual at David's.  I normally get some fresh grilled fish, but tonight I had my heart set on fish and chips.  We have never been disappointed at David's.

Our first time at the restaurant, they gave us a card for a free appetizer or dessert.  I was planning to choose an appetizer, but nothing on the menu seemed too appealing at the time, so we decided to have dessert instead.  We chose Bread Pudding.  And it was a good choice!
