Wordless Wednesday: Last Nights Game

For the past couple years, we have attended the State Fair of Texas.  The thing that keeps up coming back-the fried food.  We love to see what new concoctions they can come up with.  We started off with a Fletcher's Corndog-this is the way we start off each year.

One of the newly added fried foods that I had heard about and wanted to try was the fried bubble gum.  It is actually bubble gum flavored marshmallows served with Chiclets.  The center was near-liquid yumminess!  It didn't taste anything like a marshmallow-but just like bubble gum.

Then we passed a stand selling chicken fried bacon. It had a lot of breading, and was quite tasty, too.  We chose ranch as our dipping sauce.  On the downside, it was incredibly salty.

The last food we tasted was deep fried pumpkin pie.  By far, it was the best tasting thing we had all night.  If I were to go back this year, it would be my first stop.  It was a delicious night!

Carving Is Not As Hard As It Looks

I've been letterboxing for about 3 years, meaning I have been participating in the search for letterboxes. What I have not done until recently was to plant a letterbox. The main reason for this is because I was intimidated by having to carve a stamp because I am not a very creative person. I knew I could plant a box with a store bought stamp, but I know that some letterboxers don't look for store bought stamps, and I wanted to plant a box that any letterboxer would search for. So I read the tutorials on atlasquest about carving, and asked questions on a letterboxing e-group so that I could be prepared for carving. Everyone said it was simple, but I think it is one of those things you have to experience yourself to understand just how easy it is.

First you need to pick out a shape to carve. Start with something simple. Print out a picture from the internet if you're not creative. Color in the image with pencil.

 Next, transfer the image to an eraser by simply rubbing the leaded area onto the eraser.

Using an exacto knife, carve around the shape, and peel away the extra.

When you're done, it's time to see how the carved image looks on paper.

As you can see, the edges need some additional trimming before the final product is ready.

Certainly not a professional stamp by any means, but much simpler than expected.

It's A Fight...

...but it's a good fight.  That's the theme of the women's retreat I attended this weekend.  It was a time of refreshing, stirring the spirit, and relationship building.  Great time!

Shaving Cream

We normally play gross food games on Wednesday nights in youth, but this week, we played shaving cream games instead-messy, yes-but not gross!  I think everyone had fun with it!

He Recovered A Fumble

So proud of my youngest tonight.  At his football game, he recovered a fumble for the team.  Proud he could do his part!

Collin Street Bakery

Corsicana is famous for the Collin Street Bakery. It has been around since the 1800's. I have wanted to try their food for quite some time, but rarely find myself in Corsicana. Today was my day!

We picked up sandwiches for the football game, and some rum cake.

My oldest even got a free chocolate chip cookie. The sandwiches were okay (mine was ham and cheese on sourdough),

but the rum cake was amazing. Yum!

I can see why they are so well known!  If I'm ever passing through, the Collin Street Bakery will be a definite stopping place.
